At a Shiv Sena event in Mahabaleshwar in 2003, Uddhav Thackeray was appointed as the working president of the Shiv Sena, a step that was a political successor as Bal Thackeray’s support of his son’s support.
Raj Thackeray, otherwise seen as a natural heir, felt marginalized within the party, according to those who followed the politics of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.
Raj Thackeray’s supporters alleged that they were being sidelined in the selection of organizational matters and candidates in the Shiv Sena, while Udhav Thackeray’s influence increased.
Breaking point: public insult
In the end of 2005, the crack between the cool reached a crastendo.
On November 27, 2005, Raj Thackeray announced that he was leaving the party. In a emotional speech, he said, “Everything I had said was respect. Uddhav admitted that Bal Thackeray was deeply saddened by his nephew’s decision, although the mentors of the army themselves kept public in public.
Later: new beginning and permanent rivalry
In 2006, three months after his resignation, Raj Thackeray launched the Maharashtra Navneman Sena (MNS), putting himself as the champion of Marathi identity and regional pride.
MNS was initially successful, especially with its ‘Marathi Mano’ agenda, but its impact decreased in later elections.
Meanwhile, under the leadership of Uddhav, the Shiv Sena carried forward further storms, including a dramatic division after the rebellion of Eknath Shinde in 2022. Today, Shiv Sena has two groups – one under the leadership of Shinde, part of the government and other in protest.
Oo Thackeray suffered a heart attack as Raj
In 2012, Uddhav Thackeray suffered a heart attack. Bal Thackeray, then 86, gave Raj Thackeray into terror. The cousin reached Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai.
When Uddhav Thackeray was discharged, it was the secret that took him back home. As the scenes shone on the TV screen, many people wondered if they would now join the forces. But it was not so.
Over the years, both cousins have exchanged Barbes and have sometimes indicated reconciliation, especially when the interests of Maharashtra and Marathi language are allegedly in danger.
