Facing the heat within his party on his recent comments on Operation Sindoor and India-Pakistan struggle, the Congress MP of Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor said on Thursday, “At the time of the struggle, I only talked as an Indian, no pretense of representing anyone else.” After his comments on the India-Pakistan struggle, Tharoor’s comments came amid speculation of a wide crack between him and the grand Old Party, which were contrary to the official stance of the Congress.
Congress MP Tharoor clarified that he is not a spokesperson of the party or PM Narendra Modi-Netroet Central Government. He said, “Whatever I have said, you may agree or may disagree, blame it personally, and this is fine,” he said, “He said, addressing the Congress party reported comments that his ideas did not reflect the party’s opinion and in the context of his stance on Operation vermilion in the context of the ‘Laxman Rekha’ limit.”
Tharoor insisted that he had clearly clarified that his statements were personal views. “This was actually a contribution to the national discourse, at a time when rally around the flag was very important for us, especially internationally,” he explained.
Talking to reporters on Thursday, Tharoor heard the absence of relatives of India’s perspective abroad, especially in the United States, Europe and Middle East, which inspired their intervention.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Wednesday made it clear that the present moment asks not for personal opinion but for integrated amplification of the party’s official stance. After the meeting, some senior leaders said that Shashi Tharoor had crossed the “Laxman Rekha” with his repeated comments on the India-Pakistan struggle.
According to PTI, sources revealed that the claims emerged after CWC members and senior leaders gathered – including Tharoor, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Jeram Ramesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Sachin Pilot – were stopped on the 24 Akbar road.
A senior party leader remarked after the meeting, “We are a Democratic party and people keep expressing their opinion, but this time, Tharoor has crossed the Laxman Rekha.” Inner sources in the party indicated that without naming individuals, that a clear message was given, insisting that it is not a time to transmit personal views, but to strengthen the group’s collective position. A leader said that during the meeting, Tharoor formed an alliance with the party line and offered “creative suggestions”.
On terrorism, support for Modi government
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that the country is united in its resolve to oppose terrorism. Referring to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, he said that the government has allegedly identified at least three of the five criminals, possibly four and has vowed to continuously pursue them wherever they can be found. “I am supporting the government in making such decisions,” he confirmed.
Tharoor further saw that, for his knowledge, the primary international busynesses associated with the strike between India and Pakistan have either concluded or are currently on break. He did not express his desire to increase public concern, emphasizing that terrorism remains a separate issue. “You go after the terrorists, we are with the government,” he said, underlining the government’s full support for the functions of the government against terrorism.
