The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha issued an appeal to the Nepali students on Monday, urging them to return to the campus and resume classes after the death of a third year B.Tech student.
“There was an unfortunate incident that took place in the insect premises late yesterday evening. Soon after the incident, the police investigated the case and caught the culprit. The KIIT administration has made all-out attempts to restore the general situation in the campus and hostels to resume academic activities. The university said in a statement, “An appeal is made to all our Nepali students who plan to leave the campus to return and resume classes.
The student, known as Prakrit Lamsal from Nepal, ended his life due to “love affair”, the college claimed in a statement issued earlier on the same day.
The cousin of the deceased lodged a complaint at the Infosity Police Station in Bhubaneswar, alleging that his sister hanged herself in his hostel room on Sunday. He suspected that another male student of Versity was blackmailing his sister, for which he committed suicide.
The college also claimed that there was a mild tension among the Nepali students studying there on the death of the girl.
Several students from Nepal gathered in the KIIT campus on Sunday night and staged demonstrations demanding justice.
