Chandan Singh Shaktawat, an expert on the history and heritage traditions of Kota, says that during the princely times, Kodamar Holi was played in every house, from street to village, in entire Kota. But even with the influence of modernity, the craze of Kodamar Holi has diminished.

Here women beat men with whips made of cloth and men throw water on the women while trying to escape. Once the game of Holi gets underway, the sight becomes very interesting. Men running ahead and women running behind them with whips. Men look for an opportunity to slap women with a forceful slap from a bucket full of water. But they also have to bear the whipping of women.

Holi of concession period
Tourism promoter AH Zaidi said that during the princely times, the colors of Kodamar Holi used to spread in many areas of the city. People used to prepare for this a day or two in advance. Women used to prepare whips by placing pricking pebbles in the cloth and tying a knot. Water from Casula flowers was filled at many places. The flowers are soaked in water a day or two before. The colors prepared from this are dissolved in water and then filled in the bucket. Former Maharaj of Kota and former MP Ijyaraj Singh plays Kodamar Holi with great enthusiasm with his MLA wife Kalpana Devi. Foreign guests also participate in this celebration of Kodamar Holi.
