This time the National Eligibility Test (NET) was held on a single day – June 18 in pen-and-paper mode, with a record 11 lakh students registering for the exam.
UGC-NET is an examination to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD in Indian universities and colleges.
On Wednesday, the Union education ministry ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam after reports suggested that the sanctity of the exam had been compromised. The case was then handed over to the CBI for investigation.
“In order to ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity in the examination process, it has been decided that UGC-NET June 2024 The ministry said, “The exam is cancelled. A fresh exam will be conducted for which information will be shared separately. Also, the matter is being handed over to the CBI for thorough investigation.”
This decision of the ministry has come amid a big controversy over the medical entrance examination. National Eligibility Criteria The matter is now in the Supreme Court over alleged irregularities.
There have been allegations of question paper leaks in states like Bihar and other irregularities in this prestigious exam. These allegations have led to protests in several cities and petitions filed in several High Courts and the Supreme Court.
