NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar, in his humorous style, credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the impressive performance of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the state in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to ANI, Pawar said, “Wherever the Prime Minister’s road show and rally took place, we won. So, I consider it my duty to thank the Prime Minister.”
Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Prithviraj Chavan held a joint press conference in Mumbai on Saturday and thanked the people of the country for supporting the alliance in the state in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
Due to the impressive performance of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan had earlier said, “After the Lok Sabha election results, a change of government in Maharashtra is imminent”
In similar remarks, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray said, “It was a fight to save the Constitution and democracy.
Thackeray also said, “Those who have left me will not be taken back into the party.”
Thackeray further announced that the MVA alliance will fight the Maharashtra assembly elections together. He said, “Assembly elections are going to be held soon. This government was the Modi government and now it has become the NDA government. Now it has to be seen how long this government lasts.”
Pawar ruled out any possibility of taking nephew Ajit Pawar back into his party.
The BJP’s tally in Maharashtra dropped to just nine from the 23 seats it won in 2019. The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won seven seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP managed to win only one seat. This brought down the NDA’s total tally to 17 out of the 48 seats in the state. In contrast, the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance had won 43 seats in 2014.
Following the election results, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis requested the senior party leadership to relieve him of his responsibilities, citing accountability for the electoral defeat.
