After months of speculation, it is official: strangers are leaving the creator Matt and Ross Duffer Netflix and are moving to paramount under a new, exclusive deal. The filmmaker pair, through their upside down Pictures banner, have signed a four -year agreement with Paramount Global and its original company Skydance, which mark a major change in their creative journey.
What will happen to the Strenger Things Franchise?
According to the deadline, the new deal confirmed by Paramount, will be effective after the conclusion of the current Netflix contract of Duffer Brothers in April 2026. While his partnership with Netflix is ending, brother Strenger Things will be involved in franchise and related spinoffs, including upcoming shows and something is going to be very bad.
Paramount agreement will directly write, direct and produce the original materials for the duffers, paramount pictures, paramount television and paramount streaming platforms. The deal is a major victory for paramount, which offers the studios special access to one of the most influential creative teams in modern entertainment.
The step also marks a renovation with familiar faces: Cindy Holland, who is now the chairman of the Paramount’s Direct-to-Consumer Division, and was the chief officer of Matt Thunle, Netflix President of Paramount TV Studio, when the duffers first picked back the Stranger Things in 2015.
Brothers are ready to make movies
In a joint statement, the brothers said, “We can’t be thrilled to join the Paramount family. David, Josh, and Dana Bold, are emotional about bringing the original films on the big screen. Being a part of that mission is not just exciting – it is not a lifelong dream fulfillment.
He said: “Our time in Netflix has been incredible. Ted, Bela, and Peter have given us the kind of creative freedom and support that artists dream, but rarely get. In a decade, they are families.”
While his next chapter will focus on creating original films and series for Paramount, fans of Stranger Things may give assurance. Duffers will continue to oversee the final season (Strenger Things 5) and will remain executive manufacturer on the future development of the franchise in Netflix.
