Schools in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad have shifted to hybrid classes after air quality in NCR reached severe category.

Due to severe air pollution in Delhi-NCR, schools have shifted to hybrid classes.
Air pollution levels in several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have once again reached the ‘severe’ category, raising serious health concerns among residents. Due to continuously deteriorating air quality, people across the region have complained of difficulty in breathing, sore throat and burning sensation in the eyes.
In response to the worrying situation, the Delhi government has implemented Phase 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). As part of these emergency measures, all private and government schools in Delhi have been asked to shift classes up to class 11 to hybrid mode, except for class 10 students.
Along with this, government and private offices have been instructed to work with only 50 percent employees, while the rest of the employees will work from home.
With pollution levels remaining dangerously high, many parents and students are hoping that authorities may either close schools temporarily or declare early winter vacations. However, no official announcement has been made yet regarding the closure of schools.
Delhi
The Directorate of Education (DOE) in Delhi has directed all schools to adopt hybrid teaching model with immediate effect. Wherever online teaching is possible, schools are required to conduct classes using a mix of online and physical methods for students up to class 9th and class 11th. Parents and students have also been given the option to choose online classes if the school offers this facility.
The order applies to all government, government-aided and recognized private schools under the Directorate of Education, NDMC, MCD and Delhi Cantonment Board. Education officials said further instructions will be issued after reviewing the air quality levels.
Noida
Noida schools have also made changes to reduce students’ exposure to polluted air. The authorities have decided that children from pre-nursery to class V will attend classes completely in online mode until further notice.
For students of classes 6 to 9 and class 11, schools have been asked to follow a hybrid system mixing online and offline classes on the basis of safety and feasibility. School managements have been asked to give priority to the health of students while planning for physical classes.

Ghaziabad
A similar system has been started in Ghaziabad. The District Inspector of Schools confirmed that online classes will continue for students from pre-nursery to class 5, while classes 6 to 9 and class 11 will follow the hybrid learning model.
The district administration said that the revised educational program will remain in effect from December 14, 2025, till further orders. School principals and coaching center operators have been instructed to strictly follow the guidelines without any exceptions.
Gurugram
At present, no official order has been issued regarding the shift to online or hybrid classes for Gurugram schools. Officials said an announcement would be made if pollution levels continued to worsen.
Education departments across NCR said the situation is being closely monitored and further decisions will be taken based on the air quality situation in the coming days.
