Mizoram, widely considered one of the most picturesque states of Northeast India, is expanding the warmth and charm of its little piece of paradise, with the launch of an expanded Winter Festival 2025 and a series of festive events running till early January. It is designed to showcase Mizoram as an attractive seasonal destination for both domestic and international visitors – especially those looking for rich cultural experiences, adventure tourism and meaningful community engagement. The initiative reflects a deliberate shift towards weaving festive celebrations into the image of the quaint state as a bucket list destination, complemented by their rich yet settled culture. One thing really notable about the lineup? The state’s efforts are to integrate the itinerary with sustainable tourism, adventure travel, local livelihood generation and community-based hospitality.

Not just festivals, Mizo state is also a rich storehouse of many roads, less travelled. Immersing your senses in nature doesn’t come as an option here, even when it comes to city landscapes – Aizwal’s Taiwan River Valley is a great example of this, although the Mizoram State Museum and KV Paradise are spectacular man-made attractions. Other attractions include Thenzawl’s Vantawang Waterfall and Handloom Ecosystem, Reik’s Khuangchera Puk Cave and Dampa Tiger Reserve, a trek up the Hmuifang Mountains to Sumsuih, Chawilung, Maubuang, Thiak, Saatek and Sialsuk villages, Lunglei’s Karbaphuli River Valley and Champhai’s Letha Mountain Range. So when it comes to taking a nap in the lap of nature, you’ll really be spoiled for choice.
Reminiscent of the Winter Festival this year, it will be held at the Lammuel grounds from December 15 to 20. A Christmas-themed celebration will also be held soon after on 23 December. Finally, the festivities will move beyond the city limits after the New Year in early January, with the Cherry Blossom Ceremony held in Fuibuang.
So is the ‘land of rustling winds’ calling you this weekend?
