REWE West has launched ‘Fresh & Smart’. The world’s first autonomous nutrition system powered by the Circus CA-1 AI robot, which cooks, plates and cleans the food on its own. Here you will get a new experience of retail automation in freshness, speed and low cost.

From robotic bag packers to AI-powered trolleys, every step is aimed at simplifying work and reducing labor costs. REWE West has taken the latest step in this field. The company has launched a new shopping experience named ‘Fresh & Smart’, which will be equipped with the world’s first autonomous nutrition system.
Under this new system, Circus’s CA-1 AI robot and AI software platform are being integrated in the supermarket. This will give customers a fast, fresh and modern shopping experience and may prove to be a new beginning for retailers.
CA-1 is a fully automated robotic kitchen, which can handle the work of an entire restaurant in one small unit. There is no need for a human chef in this. This is an AI-powered system, which cooks food, serves it in plates and also washes the utensils itself.
With the help of two robotic arms, smart ingredient storage and computer vision, it prepares restaurant-level food in 3-4 minutes. It can serve 120 dishes an hour (about one every 30 seconds) and requires only 1 hour of human supervision per day.
Customers order on a touchscreen and food is delivered through heated pickup slots. After the food is cooked, the machine washes its utensils itself.
Money is saved up to 95%
This plug-and-play system fits in approximately 6.6 square meters. It reduces labor costs by up to 95% and also reduces food wastage due to precise portioning.
It has been rolled out in German supermarkets under the ‘Fresh & Smart’ brand. Here customers can enjoy fresh and hot food at affordable prices starting from €6. The CA-1 is perfect for airports, hospitals, offices or anywhere that fast and fresh food is needed.
