The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has taken an important step to support India’s ‘self -reliant India’ campaign by launching two educational modules called ‘Swadeshi, Wocal for Local’. These modules are beyond traditional textbooks, which help students to connect India’s magnificent history with their current visit towards economic self -reliance. (Representative image/file)

The primary goal is to educate students how the spirit of the 1905 indigenous movement is integral to the point of view of “self -sufficient India”. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 79th Independence Day speech, which emphasized self -sufficiency as “the foundation of national power and dignity”, this initiative not only promotes economic development, but also enhances the spirit of national pride and responsibility. NCERT’s new modules include the historical reference to the indigenous movement and emphasize the importance of major areas such as semiconductor industry and local entrepreneurship in shaping modern India. By connecting with these modules, students are encouraged to understand the importance of becoming active partners in India’s economic progress and promoting local products and services. These NCERT modules draw similarities between contemporary “self -reliant India” and “vocal for local” movements with the historic indigenous movement of 1905. He explains how leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Lala Lajpat Rai advocated boycott of British products and advocated promoting Indian industries. This historical perspective teaches students that the concept of self -sufficiency has long been the cornerstone of India’s freedom struggle. (Representative image/canva)

An important part of the module is dedicated to the India Semiconductor Mission, which explains the importance of a semiconductor for economic development and national security. This technical self -sufficiency and India’s efforts to reduce dependence on imports in this region of India highlights. Additionally, the initiative encourages students to pursue a career in science and technology, addressing an important need for the country. (Representative image/gati)

The module has inspirational stories that embodiment the spirit “vocal for local”, such as Bodhi Sathwa Care Works, which was installed by a female entrepreneur in Kerala, and employment opportunities created by a rural youth in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, through cow dung products. These narratives suggest how small scale local initiatives can promote adequate changes and economic empowerment, creativity and entrepreneurship. (Representative image/file)

An educational module specifically emphasizes the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative. The initiative has identified more than 1,200 unique products in more than 750 districts in India, promoting them both nationally and internationally. It helps each district to demonstrate its unique identity and economic capacity on a global platform, teaching students how to marketing local products worldwide. (Representative image/file)
