1. It is more than a vitamin
“But first, it is not just a vitamin. It actually acts like a hormone in your body, controlling more than 200 genes,” Dr. Sethi says.
2. Food sources are limited
Dr. Sethi states that vitamin D-rich foods are limited. “Food sources of vitamin D are rare. You will need to eat piles of salmon, tuna, eggs, or mushrooms, just to match vitamin D, your skin comes in contact with 15 minutes of sun,” they say.
3. Decrease is usually silent
Unlike other nutrients, low vitamin D often shows no obvious symptoms for years. “It often appears as fatigue, low mood, or frequent infection,” Dr. Sethi warned.
4. Can do too much backfire
