IIT Madras conducted JEE Advanced 2024 today, May 26, for admission to 23 IITs. It is worth mentioning that the exam was conducted in two shifts for two papers – Paper-1 and Paper-2. The first shift was conducted from 9 am to 12 noon, and the second shift started at 2:30 pm and ended at 5:30 pm. The exam was conducted in computer-based mode (CBT).
Now, how were both the papers in terms of difficulty? In this article, we will look at what students said about the paper, as told by Ramesh Batlish, Managing Partner, FIITJEE Noida Centre.
Students’ Feedback on Paper 1:
Moderate to Difficult Level: Students found the overall level of Paper-1 moderate to difficult, but not easy.
Students reported that Mathematics was easy to moderate, Chemistry was moderate, but Physics was relatively difficult.
- chemistry It was not balanced as more weightage was given to Organic Chemistry. Some questions in Inorganic Chemistry were directly from NCERT. Questions in Physical Chemistry included chapters on Chemical Kinetics, Chemical Equilibrium, Atomic Structure and Thermodynamics. In Organic Chemistry, most of the questions were asked about amines, polymers, biomolecules and oxygenated compounds, some named reactions were also asked. Mixed-concept questions were asked. This section was rated as Moderate according to students.
- In PhysicsChapters like kinematics, rotational motion, kinetic theory of gases, modern physics, capacitors, electric current, optics, electrostatics and electromagnetic induction were given more importance. Overall Physics was considered difficult as compared to the other two subjects according to the students. It was a balanced section according to the students.
- Mathematics According to students, it was easy to moderate. It had questions from functions, limits, definite integrals, matrices, statistics and probability. Some good questions were asked from chapters on permutation and combination, probability, complex numbers, 3-D geometry, circles and ellipses. Some questions were reported to be lengthy.
- No errors have been reported till the copy is filed, as the entire paper is yet to be analysed.
- Total number of questions in Paper 1 was 51.
- Total marks of Paper-1 was 180 which is same as last year.
- Since this test was on a computer, students had the option to clear the response to change any option, they could mark it for review, save and click next to proceed further.
- During the examination, students were given scribble pads for rough work.
Students’ Feedback on Paper 2:
Students found the overall level of the paper to be moderately difficult. Even tougher than Paper 1. Some students reported that Physics and Chemistry were of moderate level, but Maths was relatively difficult.
- chemistry It was difficult according to students. Organic, inorganic and physical chemistry were given equal weightage. Inorganic chemistry had some questions about p-block, chemical bonding and coordination compounds which were directly from NCERT. Physical chemistry had questions related to electrochemistry, ionic and chemical equilibrium, electrochemistry and surface chemistry. In organic chemistry, questions were mostly asked from aldehydes and ketones, polymers, biomolecules and mixed concepts. Qualitative analysis was asked in comprehension-based type questions. This section was rated as moderate according to students.
- In PhysicsThe questions were asked from the chapters of Waves and Sound, Ray and Wave Optics, Fluids, EM Waves, Thermodynamics, Modern Physics with more weightage to Kinematics, Gravitation and Electrostatics. Overall, Physics was moderately difficult according to students. Students felt that this section was not balanced. Some of the questions had tricky and lengthy calculations.
- Mathematics According to students, this was the most difficult. It had questions from functions, limits, applications of derivatives, definite integrals, area under a curve, inverse trigonometric functions, vectors, 3D geometry, circles, parabolas, quadratic equations, permutations and combinations and probability. Students felt that this section was the most difficult.
- No errors have been reported till the copy is filed, as the entire paper is yet to be analysed.
- Total number of questions in Paper 1 was 51.
- The total marks for Paper-2 was 180 which is same as last year.
- Since this test was on a computer, students had the option to clear the response to change any option, they could mark it for review, save and click next to proceed further.
- During the examination, students were given scribble pads for rough work.
