A low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal, off the Sri Lankan coast, is likely to cause intense rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu, including the capital Chennai, from today. The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) in Chennai has issued an orange alert for four districts including Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Karaikal region, warning of very heavy rainfall ranging between 12 to 20 cm on Sunday. Apart from this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in five districts including Ramanathapuram and Sivagangai.
Meteorologists said light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at isolated places in Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Viluppuram districts of Tamil Nadu as well as Puducherry and Karaikal.
