Police probing a cybercrime case involving the sale of “leaked” question papers of the Madhya Pradesh civil services exam (preliminary) were in for a surprise when the suspect turned out to be a Class 10 student who had learnt the cheating skills from YouTube and wanted to buy expensive clothes and shoes.
Prima facie, it appears that the student from Rajasthan decided to dupe job seekers to make quick money to fulfil his expensive desires like buying stylish clothes and shoes and eating at posh restaurants, an Indore police official said on Monday.
He said the student had also allegedly committed fraud under the pretext of selling the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tushar Singh said the student from Jhunjhunu district had created a channel on the social media platform Telegram. He claimed to have access to the preliminary round papers of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) exam held on June 23 and offered them for sale. Each will cost Rs 2,500.
Singh said a QR code was made available on the Telegram channel for payment through UPI.
The officer said, “As soon as a person made the payment through this QR code in the greed of getting the State Service Exam question paper, the student would block the mobile number of that buyer. The student has cheated two to four candidates by using this method of fraud.”
He said the student did not have any state services exam paper and falsely claimed that the paper had been leaked to cheat candidates.
The ACP said, “The student said that he learned the tricks of online fraud on YouTube. With the money he cheated, he wanted to buy expensive clothes and shoes and also fulfill his desire of eating in expensive restaurants.”

The ACP said the student had also allegedly committed fraud under the pretext of selling the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper and the case is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with the help of Rajasthan police.
