Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and chief Akhilesh Yadav has given a “monsoon offer” to the ruling party MLAs amid speculation of a rift in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the saffron party’s performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. In a post, Akhilesh Yadav asked the dissidents to bring a hundred MLAs and form a new government in Uttar Pradesh.
“Monsoon Offers: Bring it, form the government [Bring a hundred, form government]”It is unfortunate that the BJP has betrayed its workers,” the former chief minister said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Though Akhilesh Yadav did not name anyone in his post, a senior party leader told news agency PTI that it was a message for those who are dissatisfied with Yogi Adityanath and want to go to the opposition.
“The SP has won 111 seats in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and if we get the support of the 100 disgruntled BJP MLAs, we will easily form the government,” the SP leader said, according to PTI.
There is discontent in the Uttar Pradesh BJP unit which became evident after Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s post in which he said that the party is bigger than the government. He also urged all ministers, MLAs and public representatives to respect party workers.
He said, “The organization is bigger than the government, the pain of the workers is my pain. No one is bigger than the organization, the workers are our pride.”
On Tuesday, July 16, Keshav Prasad Maurya met BJP President JP Nadda, but the details of the meeting have not been revealed.
There have been talks of Maurya and Adityanath not having a cordial relationship for a long time. According to the agency report, in private conversations, many BJP leaders of the state, including those who lost in the Lok Sabha elections, have been criticising the Chief Minister’s working style and citing it as one of the reasons for their defeat.
