Speaking on unnecessary demands of actors and taking 50-60 percent of the production cost as star fees, Anurag said, “When you make a film, more money is spent on unnecessary things than on making the film. Actors’ fees are not a problem because the market decides that. The way I make films, I stay within limits, sometimes I even lose my fees. I have worked on zero fees in more than 60% of the films in my life.
He further said, “The biggest example of this is Gangs of Wasseypur. My fees were zero because I did not want to replace actors with big stars. I do not work with big actors, but in the most cost conscious industry, we have three big stars – Shahrukh, Salman and Aamir. All three do not take fees for a film. They take the backend of every film. None of their films are costly.”
