Ananya Panday aka Ahana is enjoying the success of her latest OTT release Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan and she feels very “happy, grateful and full of love”. “I feel validated not only as an actor, but validated by the choice I have made to go with the film and the choices I have made as Ahana,” says Pandey. “I am happy that people saw it, noticed the little things I did in the film and they liked it. More than anything, he found comfort in my character,” she adds.
Reflecting on the unexpected love the film has received, the 25-year-old actor said, “Somewhere, we were proud and excited about it, but never thought it would reach this level of love, which is really nice. Is. We all discussed that the film felt dramatic because we got such an immediate response that everyone watched it immediately around New Year’s.
The film, which explores the dynamics of modern relationships in the age of social media, was a hit with the audience. Pandey highlights, “When we all signed up as actors, we were very involved with every part of the film. People found very small things relevant to them, including their conversations, how they spend time, specific places they visit, and how the world is right now – like social media is now the fourth character in everyone’s life and “How relationships have been this time has been affected.”
Ask her if the trio of her, Adarsh Gourav and Siddhant Chaturvedi have the same deep bond off-screen as well, and she says, “Off-screen we are the same as everyone has seen on their screens. Sid and Aadarsh are now Neel and Amad, I wouldn’t be able to see them any other way. We did a lot of workshops together because our director wanted to make sure everything looked natural.
“The final icebreaker was when we went to Goa to shoot the first song ‘Hone Do Jo Hota Hai’, which I actually recorded on my phone. They gave us scooters and sent us to bars and beaches. All this was actually happening and I recorded it on my phone and we made a song out of it,” Pandey revealed.
Ask the Gehrayan actor how she estimates her personal and professional life on social media and she shares: “I have grown up in the time of social media. Instagram and other social media platforms came into existence when I was a teenager. I don’t really know a world without it,” and continues, “Before becoming an actor, I used to always post, but it was just in a private account with my 10-15 friends, I had to share things. I really enjoyed my life during the beginning. But now that I have grown up and started working more, I think the stage I am in right now, I am preferring a little more privacy, not only personally but also professionally. Now, I’m more excited about my work being out there and people seeing it rather than just putting something out there. It honestly depends on the individual, everyone has to deal with social media in the way they are most comfortable with. This is a type of animal that we all have to take for what it is rather than taking it too seriously.”
After playing the role of a soft innocent girl in several previous projects including Dream Girl 2, what do Pandey’s future projects look like? “I want to play characters that are neither black nor white, but grey. It’s so easy to stereotype people these days, I’d like to live somewhere in the middle. I want to do characters like how people are in real life, some real characters. People should be able to connect with me,” she replies, “I’m just starting out and there’s a lot I want to do. The journey ahead is long. I want to make big commercial mass cinema because as an audience I like watching that too. I also want to do a biopic of a sportsperson or a classical singer or dancer, where I have to learn a specific skill for something.
