Digangana Suryavanshi case update
Her team released a statement which read, “On behalf of Digangana, we would like to officially state that the allegations levelled against Digangana Suryavanshi in the complaint filed by Manish Harishankar to the Mumbai Police have been proven to be false. The police have closed the case. The RTI report has been given to the media publications in confidence which speaks for itself.”
The statement also thanked the police for the verdict, “We did not want to make any statement during the police investigation; we wanted to patiently wait for the official verdict of the police, which now clearly states that Digangana was not at fault at all. We would like to thank the Mumbai Police for their fair investigation and bringing out the truth. Thank you to all the well-wishers for always believing in them. Digangana is known for her clean image and she has maintained it.”
Manish Harishankar’s case on Digangana
In June this year, Manish’s production house MH Films filed a police complaint against Digangana accusing her of cheating and criminal breach of trust under sections 420 and 406 of the IPC. The complaint claimed that the actor had falsely claimed to have secured actor Akshay Kumar and his company as presenters for the Show Stopper series.
The complaint said, “He said that he has personal relations with stars like Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan and he is in a position to bring such popular actors as presenters.” The complaint claimed that he took money in the name of associating Akshay with him.
Advocate Falguni Brahmbhatt, representing the production house, also claimed that Digangana allegedly attempted to extort a huge sum in cash and threatened Harishankar with dire consequences if her demands were not met.
Digangana Suryavanshi sent defamation notice
Following Manish’s complaint, Digangana sent a defamation notice to Manish Harishankar and filed a police complaint against him under sections 420, 406, 509, 499, 500, 503, 506, 63, 199, 211 of the IPC.
Talking about the claims, Digangana said, “Manish’s story is his twisted imagination, it’s all a lie. Just a cheap publicity stunt to drag names, clearly he is trying to find a scapegoat so that he can escape from not being able to sell the show even after more than two years. I don’t want to waste any more time, I have already wasted so much time trying to help him”.
Her lawyer Rajendra Mishra claims that Digangana had “obtained Akshay Kumar’s approval to appear as a showstopper as part of a business deal which Manish could not fulfil.”
Controversy over show stopper
The show stopper, which also stars Zeenat Aman, Zarina Wahab, Shweta Tiwari and Saurabh Raaj Jain, has been mired in controversy this year. A source had earlier told Hindustan Times that “only one per cent of their amount was paid by the producer. Apart from the actors, many from the crew have complained about this.”
MH Films had also sent defamation notices to actor Rakesh Bedi and Digangana’s fashion designer Krishan Parmar. The series, shot in Bhopal, Indore and Mumbai, is based on the topic of bra fitting and how almost 80 per cent of women in the world wear the wrong size of bra throughout their lives, leading to serious health issues.
