Summer is the best time to focus on your fitness goals and with the hot weather, it is important to stay hydrated and consume foods that can help burn stubborn belly fat, but have you ever wondered why many Indian men have a bulging belly or why Indian women are getting bigger belly now and what is the solution to reduce this belly fat? Dr. Eric Berg, Chiropractor and Director of Dr. Berg Nutritionals, gave information about health education on his social media handle.
In a video that has now gone viral, Dr Eric Berg explained, “Out of all the countries in the world, India has the least consumption of animal meat. There is a lot of fermentation happening in their small intestine. If you look at the food history of Indians 5,000 years ago, 100 years ago, they did not eat much meat. However, they did eat meat here and there and sometimes goat and sheep meat, but did not eat beef.”
Factors behind belly fat:
He explained that as modern diets are becoming more Western, there has been a significant increase in the consumption of ultra-processed foods that are high in sugar, seed oils and refined starches and talking about sugar, he explained that it is glucose syrup, not even the kind from real cane sugar – it is synthetic sugar. He said, “These highly processed foods can cause inflammation in the gut and weaken the stomach lining, making it easier for harmful bacteria like H. pylori to thrive. H. pylori is a type of bacteria that can cause gastritis and ulcers by weakening the protective mucous layer of the stomach. To survive in the acidic environment of the stomach, it produces ammonia which neutralises stomach acid. This can lead to further digestive problems and increase the risk of diseases.”
Strategies to lose belly fat:
Dr. Eric Berg advises, “To overcome these problems, refined carbohydrates should be removed from the diet, and protein intake should be increased, especially from animal sources. Intermittent fasting and avoiding foods that cause inflammation may be beneficial.”
He suggested, “Incorporating betaine hydrochloride as a supplement may also help improve stomach acid levels and kill microbes present in the gut. Additionally, understanding the digestive system and its functions can provide valuable information on how to take care of it and address specific problems. Ultimately, by making mindful food choices and adopting nutritious eating habits, Indian men can work towards reducing belly fat and improving their overall gut health.”
Understand that weight loss is different for everyone and if the weight stays the same or plateaus despite following all good practices, it could be a sign of an underlying gut or health problem that needs medical attention.
Losing weight and burning fat depends on various factors including overall calorie intake, physical activity and individual metabolism, therefore, it is important to follow a balanced diet, regular exercise and adopt healthy lifestyle habits for sustainable weight management. It should be noted that consulting a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian can provide personalized guidance to help you design a balanced diet and achieve your specific goals to support healthy metabolism and weight loss.
