Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and veteran MP Vijay Kumar Malhotra died on Tuesday morning at All India Medical Sciences (AIIM) in New Delhi.
Malhotra, who had a long and active political career, was widely honored in the political spectrum for its ideological commitment and to strengthen the BJP, especially in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to Malhotra’s death and said that he played an important role in strengthening the party in the national capital.

“Vijay Kumar Malhotra ji distinguished himself as an excellent leader who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played an important role in strengthening our party in Delhi. He is also remembered for his parliamentary intervention. Combine for his family and fans.
The BJP’s Delhi unit also mourned the loss of the experienced leader. In a post on X, the party said, “The news of the sudden demise of the first president of Delhi BJP, the sudden death of a senior BJP leader, Professor Vijay Kumar Malhotra ji, is very heartbreaking. In this hour of grief, the entire BJP family stands with its family members. God gave a place on his divine feet.”
Who was Vijay Kumar Malhotra?
Born in Lahore, Punjab (now in Pakistan), Malhotra began his political journey with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. In 1972, he was elected as the President of Delhi Pradesh Jan Sangh and held the post till 1975.
He went twice to serve as BJP President, first in 1977 and then in 1980.
Keeping an active career in politics, a senior BJP leader has been credited to preserve the party in the national capital for many years.
Five -time members of Parliament (MP) and twice the Legislative Assembly members (MLA), Malhotra, at one point, at a time, the only BJP candidate to win a seat in Delhi.
The party has expressed condolences to the leaders of the lines, in which Malhotra’s long service has been remembered for the decades of public life and their dedication to the democratic process.
