The main examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will begin today i.e. 20 September. More than eight lakh candidates will appear in the UPSC main examination. This examination is the second stage of the recruitment process for central services and posts.
UPSC Main 2024 Exam Timings:
The main exam will be conducted in two sessions. The morning session will begin at 9 am and end at 12 noon, while the afternoon session will begin at 2:30 pm and end at 5:30 pm.

September 20 – Essay paper
September 21 – General Studies Paper I (Morning Session), General Studies Paper II (Afternoon Session)
September 22 – General Studies Paper III (Morning Session), General Studies Paper-IV (Afternoon Session)
September 28- Paper A- Indian Language (Morning Session), Paper-B English (Afternoon Session)
September 29- Paper-IV (Optional Subject Paper-I) (Morning Session), Paper-V (Optional Subject Paper-II) (Afternoon Session)
UPSC Mains Exam 2024: Things to Carry Along
Candidates are only allowed to carry their e-admit card, pen, pencil, photo ID proof, copies of self-photo and any other items specified in the instructions. An FAQ document uploaded on the UPSC website states, “Candidates are advised to reach the examination venue on time to ensure their smooth entry inside the examination venue after following the necessary protocols. Candidates may note that as per the current policy of the Commission, entry to the examination venue is closed 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination session.”
