Refuting claims of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) being upset over Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal’s absence during Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED, she claimed she had gone to the US to attend a conference at Harvard and later her stay got extended as her sister was infected with Covid-19. Maliwal also questioned that if she was manhandled for that reason, then why was Raghav Chadha, who was absent during Kejriwal’s arrest, treated differently.
Raghav Chadha had undergone eye surgery in London and was out of the country for a long time. According to reports, he had developed a serious eye disease, which could have made him blind.
In an exclusive interview to India Today TV, Maliwal said, “I had gone to the US to attend the Harvard Conference and participated in various meet-and-greet events organised by AAP volunteers. At the time when Arvind Kejriwal was arrested, my sister who lives in the US got Covid. All my belongings were at her house and then I had to be quarantined. During that time also I was in touch with the party, I was tweeting and talking to AAP leaders. I did whatever I could at that time. To say that I was not working for the party at that time is very unfortunate.”

Without naming Chadha, she said, “If this is the reason I was beaten up, I really want to understand why I was treated like this and why the other Rajya Sabha MP who was in London was given such a grand welcome?”
On AAP’s claim that it was in talks with the BJP, the Rajya Sabha MP said, “This is very unfortunate and they had threatened me with exactly this. They said this is what will happen as soon as I file a complaint against Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar.”
Bihav Kumar moved court for bail
Meanwhile, sources said that Bibhav Kumar, accused of attacking AAP MP Swati Maliwal, has filed a bail plea in a court, on which the court has sought a reply from the Delhi Police.
Court sources said the petition was filed by Kumar’s lawyers after he was sent to four-day judicial custody on Friday. They said the petition would be heard on Monday.
His anticipatory bail plea, filed last Saturday, was termed “frivolous” by the court. The Delhi Police has claimed that Kumar is not cooperating in the investigation, is being evasive in his answers and has not even revealed the password of his mobile phone.
