At the moment we are talking about Hatta’s stepwell, located just 15 km from Balaghat. This stepwell is about three hundred years old, which ruled the three dynasties.
Historian Virendra Gaharwar said that the history of Hatta’s Bawdi is three centuries old. Actually, this stepwell was built by Buland Shah, who settled the city of Nagpur, in the 17th century. This Bawdi was designed for soldiers to stop, rest and drink water. At the same time, this stepwell ruled the three dynasties, including Haihay, Gond and Bhosle. In such a situation, the artifacts of the architecture of these dynasties are seen in them. It is said that there was an underground route here, which is found in the fort of Lanji.
Hand over to the Department of Archeology in 1988
Pratap Nagpure, a descendant of Lodhi landlords, told that this stepwell reached the landlords through three dynasties. In such a situation, Lodhi went into the hands of the landlords in 1818. After this, till after independence, this Bawdi was near Lodhi dynasty. At the same time, Pratap Nagpure, a descendant of Lodhi landlords, said that in February 1988, this stepwell was handed over to the Archaeological Department.
