Appliances with 5 star rating consume the least power. The cooler consumes up to 400 watts of power per hour. The AC will consume around 840 watts of power every hour.
New Delhi. The heat is increasing. In many places, the mercury is hovering above 50. Whether you are at home or outside, the body remains drenched in sweat and the throat is dry. Even the shade of the tree does not provide relief from the blazing heat. Fans have completely failed in front of the heat. In such a situation, people rush to AC and coolers. Here one gets relief from the cold, but its cost becomes heavy on the pocket. Many people have a question in their mind that to get relief from the scorching heat, should they install AC or buy an iron cooler. Which will consume less electricity and will save thousands every month. If you are also in this dilemma, then today we will clear all the confusion.
We will tell you with a simple calculation that if you use a fairly big and slightly old cooler made of iron, will it be economical or expensive as compared to AC. For this, we will compare it with a 1.5 ton AC which is of 5 star rating. It is believed that appliances with 5 star rating consume the least electricity. For comparing electricity bills, we have considered an average cost of Rs 7 per unit.

How much electricity will the cooler consume daily
Suppose you have an old iron cooler. According to the electrician, this cooler consumes up to 400 watts of electricity per hour. Thus, if you run the cooler for 12 hours a day, then 4800 watts of electricity will be consumed. If one unit is of 1000 watts, then your cooler will consume 4.8 units of electricity (5 units on an average) daily. The total electricity consumption in a month will be 150 units.
How much is the power consumption of AC
You have installed a 1.5 ton AC, which has a five star rating. This AC will consume about 840 watts of electricity every hour. If you run it for 12 hours daily, it will consume 10,080 watts of electricity. If one unit is of 1000 watts, then your daily electricity consumption will be about 10 units. This simply means that this AC will consume twice the electricity as compared to a cooler. In this way, the total electricity consumption in a month will be about 300 units.
What is the difference in the monthly bill?
As we mentioned above, let us assume the rate of electricity to be Rs 7 per unit to compare the cost of both. In this way, if you run the cooler alone, your electricity bill will be Rs 1,050 per month. On the other hand, if we talk about AC, its bill will be around Rs 2,100 every month. In this way, you have seen that by running a cooler as compared to AC, you can save Rs 1,050 every month in your electricity bill.
