Education analysts have warned that recent attacks in Pahalgam, Kashmir are planning to take admission in top institutions in Jammu and Kashmir like IIM Jammu, IIT Jammu, NIT Srinagar, etc. in the coming years.
“This (attack) is definitely bad news for admission to institutions in the region. People can seek options for institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, because as parents, the first concern will be their children’s safety and goodness. All educational institutions in Jammu should be worried.”
Ramaswamy said, “Saying that, with visible measures to accept security concerns, a sharp and fixed action by the government will go a long way in giving a position to J&K institutions as possible destinations.”

Faculty members in institutions in the valley are assuring that the campuses are safe and working as usual.
An official of the Indian Institute of Management Jammu said, “We are working today. We are all offices and safe. Terrorist attacks can take place anywhere, they are also in Mumbai in the past. It will not really affect education here, so we are not worried about placement or entry.” Mint On Wednesday.
The Registrar of the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, Atikur Rahman also said, “There is no law and order situation here. Campus is safe. Our institute is a national level institution and we are not worried about entry or placement. Everything is fine.”
This is not the first time that students in Jammu and Kashmir are facing such a situation.
“Only J&K central institutions have received adequate number of external students of the state in the state. Others except NIT Srinagar are not based in the valley and are considered safe,” the consulting firm PWC highlighted the partner and sector leader Suchindra Kumar for the education sector.
Kumar said, “The NIT campus has had several issues during the last decade of local vs. non-local issues, and the administration has taken tight steps to end the crisis, and quickly bring back to bringing back attention to teaching.
“While disruption affects teaching and learning, the quality of students coming through JEE criteria, and the NIT brand has ensured continuity … even during 2010 when there was a lot of disturbances in the valley, NIT Srinagar has operated at about 90%of the total intake capacity,” said Kumar.
The status of Jammu and Kashmir colleges
In Nirf 2024, IIM Jammu finished 42nd among the country’s top management institutes and IIT Jammu and NIT Srinagar finished 62nd and 79th in top engineering colleges respectively. In the overall rating, Kashmir University was ranked 69th, while Jammu University (JU) was in rank 87.
According to the All India Survey (Aishe) 2020-21 on Higher Education, the latest data available on the number of students studying in more than 230,966 students has been nominated as a graduate course and 20,278 post graduation as 2020-21.
Students of Jammu and Kashmir who are studying in other states are also affected. There have been reports of attacks and harassment against Kashmiri students in other states after the attacks. Residents of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir have launched a helpline numbers for J&K students.
