Actress Tillotama Shome recently recalled her horrific experience of sexual harassment in Delhi. In the interview, Tilottama told that this incident happened when she was waiting for a bus in Delhi during the winter months. While she was waiting for the bus, a car stopped near her and some people started molesting her.
“Then they started teasing me. Someone threw a small stone. I moved a little further away. I thought I have to leave from here. Now either I will run away, but they can overtake me. So, I decided to stand in the middle of the road and take a bike,” she said.
She said that though many vehicles passed by, none stopped. Soon, she saw a car with a medical sign approaching from a distance and she sat in the front seat with the stranger.
Tilottama said, “We just went a little further. He grabbed my hand and unzipped his pants and I think he wanted me to do something. The moment he grabbed my hand, it was like an instinct, like he hit me. I don’t know what I did, but he had to stop his car because something happened. He turned the car, whatever. And he asked me to get out.”
Horrifying memory
Calling it a terrifying experience, she said she was shaken by it. Recalling the incident, she said, “I thought it might be safe since he was a doctor. I got into the car and sat in the front seat. But just then, the driver unzipped his pants and tried to forcefully grab my hand. My instincts kicked in and I hit him. What happened forced him to stop the car and he asked me to get out. It was a terrifying experience and I was shaken. But my instinct to fight back helped me get out of a dangerous situation”.
