New Delhi. Telecom regulator TRAI on Friday said that in case of mobile SIM replacement, the mobile number will be considered eligible for ‘porting’ only after seven days. This step has been taken to prevent fraud through mobile phone numbers. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said, ‘The Telecom Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations issued by the regulator on March 14, 2024 will come into force from July 1, 2024.’
Earlier, one had to wait for 10 days for ‘SIM swap’. But the regulator has reduced this period to seven days in the new amendment. TRAI said that the purpose of the amended rules is to curb the porting of mobile numbers by anti-social elements for fraud.
