Pankaj Kumar Raj cherishes every comic character.
The officer is famous for his exceptional collection of classic comics in a world dominated by mobiles.
There was a time when comics were our primary source of imagination and adventure. Superheroes like Super Commando Dhruva, Nagraj and Chacha Chaudhary made our childhood special. Getting lost in these vibrant stories was a favourite pastime, offering a break from schoolbooks and a chance to feel like a hero. With the advent of smartphones and the internet, that fascinating world of comics has faded into memory. An IPS officer in Patna is keeping that magic alive. The officer, who has achieved remarkable success in his career, has proudly preserved his treasure trove of comics.
Pankaj Kumar Raj, Superintendent of Police and Assistant Director of Civil Defence in Patna, is no ordinary IPS officer. He is famous for his extraordinary collection of classic comics in the age of mobiles and laptops. His collection includes not just a few but about 2000 to 2500 comics. Some are so old that reading them makes one feel like going back in time. IPS Pankaj has preserved these comics very carefully in cupboards and Godrej cabinets and has preserved them like priceless treasures.
Though Pankaj Kumar Raj loves every comic character, he has one favourite character since childhood – Super Commando Dhruv, who used to conquer his enemies without any superpowers, just by his courage and intelligence. Pankaj shared with Local18 that this was the quality he admired the most in Dhruv. Dhruv’s determination and ability to overcome every challenge inspired Pankaj to aim high in life. This is the inspiration that eventually led him to become an IPS officer. Like Dhruv, Pankaj also firmly believes that superpowers are not necessary; hard work and strong willpower are enough to achieve success.
Even today, when his office work is over and he has some free time, he reads comics instead of using his mobile. Pankaj Kumar is not only a champion of Raj Comics but also of badminton. He is also the captain of the Bihar team in the All India Police Badminton Tournament. Apart from this, he has also been posted as SP in many districts.
