Summer has arrived and it has brought with it the heat that many people of Mumbai were dreading. Sweaty clothes, humid weather and humidity can make the heat in the city unbearable. Recently, the IMD issued a yellow alert and said that heatwave-like conditions will hit the city of dreams as temperatures will reach 40-42 degrees Celsius in Marathwada and Vidarbha on Thursday. IMD also said that this temperature is 3-4 degrees Celsius higher than normal.
IMD Mumbai Director Sunil Kamble said, “Currently, we are expecting heatwave in Marathwada and Vidarbha while the temperature in Mumbai is not in the heatwave category.” Kamble cautioned people to be careful while going out. Did, “You have to stay hydrated and use glasses”.

Dr. Sudhir Gore, Head of Trauma and Emergency Services, Fortis Hospital Kalyan, says, “Although the human body can tolerate heat, extreme heat can be fatal if not treated in time. This is true for people who are vulnerable, including children, older adults and people with medical conditions such as stroke, heart disease or respiratory problems.
Extreme temperatures cause heat stroke, which is a condition where the body temperature exceeds 104F due to heat. The body cannot regulate its own temperature and, therefore, cannot cool down naturally.
The most common symptoms of heat stroke are confusion, headache, nausea, and dizziness. Failure to treat such symptoms may result in loss of life, or lifelong disability.
How to avoid heat stroke?
If possible, society and community can keep pots with clean drinking water for needy people, beggars, delivery persons, domestic helps etc.
Whenever you step out of the house, keep a water bottle with you. You can also carry fresh juice and glucose water
Carry an umbrella or a hat if you have to go out during extreme heat.
Avoid alcoholic, hot or sugary drinks. They may provide temporary relief, but they can worsen dehydration.
Wear loose cotton clothes if you go out in the afternoon sun
Eat seasonal fruits in summer as they help the body deal with the heat. Include mango, watermelon, cucumber and green leafy vegetables in your diet. This will help keep your body hydrated and provide essential vitamins and minerals.
When you return home, have a large glass of a cool drink like lemonade, buttermilk or coconut water to refresh your body and help cool it from within.
Take bath twice a day to cool your body. It is best to take a bath with lukewarm water
Keep emergency contact numbers of doctors and civic authorities with you
If you suffer from medical conditions, consult your doctor and follow his or her advice to deal with the heat.
Did you get heat stroke? what to do here
If you think you have heat stroke or have seen someone who looks like they are suffering from heat stroke, prioritize measures to prevent further discomfort. Move to a shadier and more comfortable environment. Ensuring proper circulation by lying down and raising your legs. Remove extra layers of clothing so that sweat can escape and the body can cool down faster. Hydrate with fluids to replenish lost moisture and apply a cool towel to the skin.
