Airport News: There was a stir at the airport due to the sudden movement of the bag brought from abroad. When this bag was opened under the supervision of security agency and customs, everyone’s eyes went wide after seeing the sight inside it. The hands of some people present on the spot started trembling with fear, while some mouthed the same, so cute. Yes, actually this matter is related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport of Mumbai. In this case, two passengers have also been arrested from Mumbai Airport.
According to the senior officer, the passengers coming from abroad were under the watch of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit and other security agencies at the arrival terminal of Mumbai Airport. Two passengers coming from abroad had just crossed the customs green channel when the customs AIU noticed a movement in the bag. Seeing this, the customs officers stopped both the passengers for investigation. In the presence of all the officers, both the officers were asked to open the bag. At the same time, as soon as the bag was opened, the eyes of the customs officers were wide open.
As soon as the bag was opened, shocking things came out.
According to the senior officer, as soon as the bag was opened, 12 foreign turtles were recovered from inside it. The recovered turtles include eight Japanese Pond Turtles and four Scorpion Mud Turtles. All these turtles have been identified by the Wildlife Bureau. After identifying these turtles, the customs arrested both the passengers on smuggling charges. Customs is interrogating both the accused to know the answers to all the questions including what was the purpose of bringing the turtles to India and to whom they were to be delivered.

It is noteworthy that in another similar case, the Air Intelligence Unit of CUST had arrested two other passengers. Both these passengers had also reached Mumbai airport from Bangkok. The Customs Air Intelligence Unit had seized two Visayan Hornbills and the same number of Sulawesi Hornbills from the possession of these passengers. The Wildlife Bureau had identified them as birds of the Tarictic/Visayan Hornbill and Sulawesi Hornbill species. In view of issues related to wildlife trafficking, special precautions are being taken at Mumbai Airport.
