Today, on one hand people are wasting water and on the other hand they are thirsting for water. But no major effort is seen among people to save water. Due to this, the water level has gone down in many places. In many areas of the country, people are not getting water even for drinking. Whereas in old times, people used to build ponds, stepwells and lakes to save water and temples were also built around them to prevent people from polluting that water. One such pond or lake is in Kota, Rajasthan, which is called Kishore Sagar Lake.
Who built it and when
This pond was built between 1743 and 1745 by Maharao Durjanshal Singh of Kota and Princess Braj Kanwar ji of Udaipur. They built a beautiful Jag Mandir in the middle of the pond. When you see the temple in the lake, the view is amazing. The entire Jag Mandir is built in water. People also enjoy boat rides in the lake. Chhatra Vilas Garden is also built here.
This lake was built to meet the water needs of the city. Its water was also used for irrigation. For a long time, the royal family also got this lake cleaned. Later, drain water started being poured into it and it started deteriorating.
A few years ago, an attempt was made to revive this lake once again. There are at least 8 to 10 species of fish in this lake. Crocodiles have also been seen in it a few times. When water is released from the Chambal river into the canals, crocodiles come out of Chambal along with the water and reach this lake via the canals. Apart from this, many aquatic and exotic birds also reside here.
Seven Wonders Park was built adjacent to this lake. People also like the Seven Wonders Park built here a lot. 7 wonders have been built in this park which include the Eiffel Tower, Pyramid, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Coliseum, Statue of Liberty, Christ the Redeemer and an exact replica of the Taj Mahal. Apart from this, an exact replica of Salim Singh’s mansion was built on the bank of Kishore Sagar lake. This building is 17 meters high.
How to reach
The nearest airport to Kota is Sanganar Airport in Jaipur. It is 244 km away from Kota. Apart from this, buses are available for Kota from all the cities and towns in Rajasthan. Kota is a major junction for traveling by train. Most of the trains pass through Kota.
