Maruti Suzuki will start production of its first electric car EVX at the Gujarat facility from spring 2025.
Suzuki Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation on Wednesday announced that Suzuki Motor Corporation will supply electric vehicle (EV) models, which will be manufactured at its upcoming facility in Gujarat. The Maruti Suzuki eVX is scheduled to hit production lines from spring 2025 and will be the first all-electric model from the country’s largest carmaker.
The decision to supply electric models to Toyota comes as part of the international collaboration between the two companies, which has seen teamwork in the development of several combustion engine models to date. But now, the time has come for the partnership to take a green turn.

Suzuki-owned Maruti Suzuki is finally betting on all-electric models and the EVX will be the first model in the line. The concept version of the EV was showcased at the previous edition of the Indian Auto Expo in 2023. It is reported that the production version of the EVX will come with a 60 kWh battery pack and could have a per-charge range of around 400. Km.
EVX will be rolled out from the Gujarat facility which is exclusive for EVs and will have an annual production capacity of 2.50 lakh units. This is the fourth production facility of Maruti Suzuki with all others currently located in Haryana.
Maruti Suzuki is ready for EV
Maruti Suzuki currently boasts of a very popular product portfolio, ranging from the Alto K10 at one end of the price spectrum to the Invicto MPV, which is basically a re-badged version of the Toyota Innova Crysta.
The company also offers its models in multiple powertrain options and while it has avoided diesel for the past several years, many of its models also come with company-fitted CNG. For its hybrid portfolio, Maruti Suzuki depends on units manufactured by Toyota.
However, the next step may be fully electric. Despite being a volume player, Maruti Suzuki officials admit that the EV will not be massive initially. But while the EVX is a start, the company plans to introduce multiple EV models in the coming years.
The electric car market in India is currently dominated by Tata Motors which offers models like Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV and Curve EV. Then there are players like JSW MG Motor with the Comet EV, Windsor EV and ZS EV and Hyundai with the Ioniq 5. Kia has recently launched EV9. 1.23 crores. Mahindra offers the XUV400, but has confirmed plans to aggressively expand its all-electric offerings as well.
