Jeopardizing our sleep routine during festivals can have unhealthy effects on the body.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Sheetal Goyal, Neurologist, Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central, said, “Maintaining a good sleep routine during the festive season can be challenging, but it is important to stay energetic. One way to balance celebration and relaxation is to keep bedtimes flexible. Even if you stay up late, try to wake up at the same time every day to keep your body in shape.
Keep an eye on your alcohol and caffeine intake:
It is also necessary to control the intake of alcohol and caffeine. Both can affect sleep quality, so it’s best to enjoy them in moderation and avoid consuming them too close to bedtime. Opting for water or herbal tea instead can help you relax, and pairing it with a calming pre-sleep routine like reading or stretching can make a big difference. It’s also important to limit screen time before bed, as the blue light from devices can disrupt your sleep.

take a power nap:
If you expect a late night, consider taking a short nap earlier in the day to refresh without disrupting your sleep schedule too much. Apart from this, also keep in mind what you eat before sleeping. Avoid heavy, heavy meals that can cause discomfort and opt for light snacks if you’re hungry late at night.
Engage in physical activity:
Physical activity can improve sleep quality, so try to be active during the day. Light exercise like walking or yoga can help, but avoid intense workouts too close to bedtime. Create a sleep-friendly environment by keeping your room cool, dark, and quiet. If festival noise is a problem, earplugs or using a white noise machine may help.

It’s okay to set boundaries. If you’re feeling tired, it’s okay to skip late-night events and prioritize your health. It is essential to balance entertainment with adequate rest to enjoy the festive season to the fullest without getting tired.
