HC Verma was awarded Padma Shri in 2021.
During his teaching days, Dr. HC Verma observed that students were not able to understand the complex language of physics. To overcome this problem he decided to write a book.
The book ‘Concept of Physics’ by Dr. Harish Chandra Verma is a popular name among science students. The experimental physicist was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India in 2021 for his contributions to the field of science and engineering. Professor HC Verma recently delivered a lecture at Garhwal Central University, Srinagar on the occasion of Science Day on 28th February. He presented a lecture on Light with Raman Effect to the students of the university.
Speaking to Local18, HC Verma shared the mantra of success for students and said that one should study not to pass but to learn. He also recalled the creation of bestseller concepts of physics.
HC Verma is a resident of Darbhanga district of Bihar. In his childhood, he had no interest in science and mathematics, but after taking admission in Patna Science University, he developed an attraction towards science. He started devoting more time to understanding physics. Speaking to Local18, Professor Verma said that he qualified for the GATE exam after completing his graduation from Patna. After this he took admission in IIT Kanpur for MSc. After post-graduation, he completed his doctoral studies from the same institute. Later he became a professor there.
During his teaching days, Dr. HC Verma observed that students were not able to understand the complex language of physics. To overcome this problem he decided to write a book. After 8 years of hard work, he published the book Concepts of Physics in 1992. It became one of the best books for Physics, often recommended by professors to students who are preparing for JEE and other similar qualifying exams. Along with this, Dr. Verma also wrote the book Quantum Physics and Solution of Physics.
While giving the mantra of success to the students, HC Verma said that if you study to learn instead of studying to pass, you will get success sooner. “Students preparing for admission to IIT, the most prestigious engineering institute of the country, do not need to be disappointed if they do not get selected there.” He further said that the institute does not decide the ability of the students. He said that it is important to develop the ability to learn.
