The first solar eclipse or Surya Grahan of 2024 will be visible on Monday, April 8. According to NASA’s website, this is a total solar eclipse. Skywatchers can see astronomical views in North America, including Mexico, the United States and Canada, Western Europe, the Atlantic, the Pacific, Central America, the Arctic, Mexico, northern areas of South America, England, and the northwestern region of Ireland.
During a solar eclipse the Moon passes in front of the Sun, casting a shadow on Earth that can partially or completely block sunlight. The total solar eclipse comes two weeks after the first lunar eclipse of the year on March 25, 2024.
This year, stargazers are excited about the 2024 total lunar eclipse because it will last longer, the sky will darken, and the Sun itself will appear more vibrant. If this astronomical event occurs, viewers will be able to see a coronal mass ejection.

The next annular solar eclipse will be visible in several Indian cities including Kochi, Alappuzha, Chalakudy, Kottayam, Tiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, Penavu, Gudalur (Theni), Theni, Madurai, Ilaiyangudi, Karaikudi and Vedaranyam on May 21, 2031. The ‘Ring of Fire’ will grace the skies of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It will witness maximum eclipse covering approximately 28.87 percent of the Sun.
