Khushi is a student of civil engineering.
Khushi told that while studying in a government school, she had never thought that she would get a chance to study in an institute like IIT.
Many success stories often go viral on the internet. Recently, one such story has caught everyone’s attention. In 2023, Khushi took admission in a local college after completing her 12th board exams from her village government school in Bathinda, Punjab. She passed with good marks.
According to the report, Khushi’s father repairs mobile phones at a small shop in Bhucho Kalan village. After watching the popular web series Kota Factory, Khushi dreamed of studying engineering at a reputed institute.
Despite being a brilliant student from a young age, Khushi always suppressed her dreams due to lack of resources. One day, while on her way to college, a message arrived that she had cleared the Super 100 programme run by the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery in Bathinda, which aims to select 100 underprivileged students and provide them free coaching for entrance exams to top institutes. She is now a student of civil engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Khushi told that while studying in a government school, she never thought that she would get a chance to study in an institute like IIT. After being selected in the Super 100 program, she took a gap year. Then she went to Delhi for 11 months of residential tuition and passed the exam.
Living expenses, food and tuition fees – everything was free. Khushi will be the first engineer in her family to study at a prestigious institute like IIT Guwahati.
Khushi was not the only one selected for Guru Gobind Singh Refinery’s Super 100 programme. The refinery collaborated with the Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL) in Delhi to participate in the national Super 100 programme for empowering the underprivileged through education.
After 600 children from 22 schools in Bathinda district took the competitive exam, the refinery selected eight students and sent them to CSRL for 11 months of residential coaching in July 2023. Apart from Khushi, another candidate Harpreet Singh from Burj Gill village was also among the eight students selected for the programme.
He told that after completing his 12th standard from the government secondary school of Phool town, he wanted to study engineering. But due to financial constraints and lack of proper guidance, he took admission in a private institute.
He was very surprised when he was selected for the Super 100 program. He is now studying mechanical engineering at Dr. BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Jalandhar.
