Hazaribagh: The Jharcraft Center at Sarley of Sadar block of Hazaribagh is currently playing an important role in providing a global identity to the traditional Sohraya art of Jharkhand. This center is not only saving the cultural heritage of the state, but is also providing employment to women artisans and local artists. Here more than a dozen women artisans prepare more than 20 types of products like bags, purses, file cover, handbags, cup covers. Beautiful painting of Sohraya Art is done on these products, due to which these things are making a different identity in the market.
Through this art above Ju, not only the culture of Jharkhand is being propagated, but women associated with it are also getting self-sufficient. Manish Tirkey, manager of Jharcraft, says that for the last 15 years, bags and other products are being made in Jharcraft. Initially these bags were of simple design, but when Sohraya Kala of Jharkhand received GI tag, we started launching it on the products. He told that today more than 50 artists associated with Jharcraft are doing sohraya painting on these products, whose demand is increasing to the country and abroad. These products are being sold in markets from abroad including the country with the help of the government.
Earning from 12 to 15 thousand
Meena Devi, a female artist engaged in bag construction, says that earlier we used to be busy with household chores. Gradually, after joining this center, they joined the art and started to build the products of Juti. Now we make a bag ourselves and do this sohraya painting on it. This has also increased our income. He also told that earlier the financial condition of the house was very bad, but now every month it earns from 12 to 15 thousand rupees. It is very happy to run your own expenses.
In Jhar Craft, more than a dozen artisans manufacture the products of gathering. At the same time, more than 30 women paint Sohraya and Kohbar on these products. This not only makes the product beautiful to see but also increases its demand in the market.
