CBS’s new series, Sheriff Country, wasted no time in throwing viewers into chaos. In the show’s tense premiere on Friday, October 17, a murder rocks the small town of Edgewater — and according to Us Weekly, that death is just the beginning.
Mickey (played by Morena Baccarin) is already juggling life as both a mother and sheriff. Her daughter Skye (Amanda Arcuri) insists that she keep her distance from her troubled boyfriend Brandon, who has been caught with pills before. But the night turns dark when Skye returns home covered in blood – to find Brandon dead in his apartment.

Producers tease ‘explosive’ ending
Executive producer Jon Rater told Us Weekly that the shocking death will shape everything that comes next. “The writers have come up with a story that is so exciting. When they pitched the final episode to us, (executive producer) Tony Phelan and I were like dead on the ground. We couldn’t believe it. So the mystery of Brandon and Skye’s death and his involvement and what happens next, it’s going to take us to places that are really shocking. It’s going to end with such a bang,” Rater said.
Series creator Matt Lopez said fans won’t have to wait an entire season for answers. “The mystery won’t last the entire season,” he said, teasing several “delicious plot twists”, explaining that producers have created a story that will force viewers to rethink everything they saw on the show.

A new world born from the fire country
Sheriff Country is a spin-off of Fire Country, the hit CBS drama that debuted in 2022. The show centers on Bode (Max Thieriot), an inmate who volunteers for California’s conservation camp program. By Season 2, a backdoor pilot introduced the world of Edgewater and Mickey Fox.
Lopez tells Us Weekly that Mickey’s story runs deep into complicated family relationships, explaining that while he’s the sheriff, his father “is a career criminal.” As for whether fans should prepare for tragedy, Lopez tempered expectations. “There needs to be real risk in these episodes. “We have some plans to put some of these people in really stressful situations, but I’m not opening the body bags right now. It’s early for that,” he said.
