Red Chillies hit back at Sameer Wankhede
On Wednesday, Shah Rukh Khan-owned Red Chillies Entertainment opposed IRS officer Sameer Wankhede’s plea in the Delhi High Court seeking an interim injunction on the series The Ba**ads of Bollywood.
During the hearing, senior lawyer Neeraj Kishan Kaul, representing Red Chillies, told Justice Purushendra Kumar Kaurav that satire and fiction can co-exist.
,Can satire and fiction co-exist? There is no law that it cannot co-exist. I may be partially inspired by real persons and stories, yet disclaimer, there is no problem with two people existing together. Where is the malice or malice? Kaul, on behalf of his client, said, this is the success story of a Bollywood party.
Kaul said, “We’re not looking at people who are sensitive, hurt is not the basis of malice. Can you pick a sporadic example, an excerpt here or there? The series is about 20 different issues. We don’t show a documentary on the Cordelia Cruz incident. I’m inspired by overzealous executives. That’s a far cry from saying this is the Cordelia Cruz story.”
In October 2021, Aryan made headlines when his name was linked to a high-profile drugs case after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided a rave party on the Goa-bound Cordelia Empress cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. Aryan was arrested in October 2021 by the NCB team led by former zonal officer Sameer Wankhede. He was released after spending more than three weeks in jail following his arrest. Later Aryan was given a clean chit in the drugs case.
Attacking Wankhede, Kaul claimed that Wankhede was fond of giving interviews to the media and spoke freely on post-launch issues. Netflix series.
Kaul said on behalf of Red Chillies, “You can’t say that a person who portrays the evils in Bollywood can’t show off overzealous officials. I can’t be responsible for what other people say… I have every right to portray the evils of Bollywood. Even if I project it to someone, a public official can’t be so thin.”
In his closing arguments, Kaul asserted, “Even if I portray you unjustly, that’s still not the case. Every scene in this show is exaggerated. I’m not ridiculing them or Pratik. I’m talking about executives who have elevated views.”
The court will hear arguments from Netflix on Thursday.
