The Manipur government has said that schools and colleges which were closed due to the prevailing law and order situation will reopen and resume normal classes on Tuesday.
Schools and colleges were closed on September 7 after rocket attacks killed one person and injured several others. Institutions remained closed as students took to the streets demanding the return of peace in the ethnic strife-torn state. They clashed with security forces, forcing curfew to be imposed in several districts.
Orders for reopening of schools and colleges were issued by the Directorate of Education (Schools) and the Department of Higher and Technical Education on Monday night.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government on Tuesday relaxed curfew restrictions in Imphal East and West and Thoubal districts from 5 am to 6 pm to facilitate people to purchase essential commodities, including food and medicines.
However, no gathering, dharna or rally is permitted under this relaxation.
Over 200 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic clashes between the Meitei people of the Imphal Valley and the Kuki people living in the adjacent hills in Manipur since May last year.
