School holiday: Schools are closed in Punjab, Haryana, UP, Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal and Chandigarh, as heavy rains lead to floods and unsafe situations.

Schools in North India were closed amidst heavy rains and flood situations.
School holiday on 4 September: In the last several days, heavy rains have created a flood -like situation in many parts of North India. The continuous downpore has inspired landslides, rivers, road interruptions and public infrastructure to cause mass damage. In view of unsafe situations, the state governments and local administration have announced the closure of schools, colleges and other educational institutions in many areas.
List of states where schools are closed today
Uttar pradesh
Mathura
In Mathura district, the situation has worsened due to a rapid rise in water level in the Yamuna river. Floods and waterfalls have affected many parts of the district, including school areas.
As a result, the District Basic Education Officer (BSA) declared holidays for all schools up to class 12 on 3 and 4 September.
Meerut
Meerut District Magistrate (DM) Dr. On September 4, VK Singh announced a holiday for all students from nursery to class 8, which were in schools associated with Parishadia (Basic Education), Government aided, CBSE, ICSE and Madrasa boards.

In Hapur, due to heavy rains, the administration has announced that all boards in all boards from nursery will be closed on September 4.
Agra
In Agra, following the order of the District Magistrate, the Education Department has directed that all secondary and other board schools will remain closed on September 4, 2025.
Haryana
Ambala
Due to continuous heavy rains and flood situations, the district administration has declared holidays for all schools, colleges and other educational institutions in Ambala till 4 September.
Jhajjar
The District Disaster Management Authority has ordered the closure of all government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centers by 6 September. However, the school staff will be on duty despite being closed.
Kaithal
Deputy Commissioner Preeti has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, butis, Anganwadi centers, sports stadiums and nurseries in Guhla subdivision on 4 September.
Rohtak
Citing the deteriorating weather conditions, the district administration has announced that all government and private schools in Rohtak will remain closed till further orders.
Punjab
In Punjab, schools and colleges were to reopen on 4 September after closing for about a week. However, the government has now decided to expand the holidays by 7 September due to heavy rains and waterlogging throughout the state. Officials said that the situation has not improved significantly to resume the situation safely. As a result, both government and private schools along with colleges will remain closed for the next few days.

Jammu and Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, officials have also ordered the closure of schools due to bad weather. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anusul Garg confirmed that all schools in Kashmir Division would remain closed on September 4 as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, in Jammu Division, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has extended the holiday for schools till 5 September. Officials said that the decision was necessary to ensure the safety of students amidst incessant rainfall and flood situations in the region.
Himachal Pradesh
The Himachal Pradesh government has announced the complete closure of educational institutions across the state. All government and private schools, colleges and district education and training (diet) will remain closed till 7 September.
Education Secretary, Rakesh Kanwar said that Himachal Pradesh is facing “very heavy rains due to continuous heavy rains” in all areas, causing widespread landslides, trees, road interruptions, electricity and water supply blockage, and public property has suffered massive damage.
Keeping the risks in mind, the government has not decided to reopen schools and colleges until the conditions are safe.
Chandigarh
The Chandigarh administration has also declared holidays for schools due to the ongoing heavy rains. As per the order, all schools in the center area will remain closed till 7 September.
It has been further mentioned in the notice that classes will resume completely after safety verification and audit of school buildings. Apart from this, the government and private aided colleges along with technical education institutions will remain closed for three days from September 4 to September 6.
