Sam Pitroda’s latest claim comes amidst the ongoing controversy over his statement on ‘IIT Ranchi Lecture Dispens’, which was fact-locked by the Center.

Congress veteran Sam Pitroda has claimed that through a video call during his address in IIT Rruki, “A hacker infiltrated the video link and started streaming” clear, inappropriate material “.
According to the Congress leader, the incident took place on 1 February 2025 during the Cognizant event held at IIT Rocky. He joined the meeting of students and teachers through zoom calls.
“Unfortunately, a few minutes after my speech, a hacker infiltrated the video link and started streaming clear, unfair material. We immediately shut down the video and ended the incident, “Pitroda said.
“It is deeply disturbing that such incidents happen, especially for learning and development in educational places,” he said.
The Congress leader said that cyber security is a significant concern, and it acts as “reminds of the importance of digital safety and vigilance”.
The latest claim comes amid a controversy over Sam Pitroda’s statement on ‘IIT Ranchi Lecture dissolution’. The Congress leader shared a video of a podcast on his X account on 22 February.
In the clip – a discussion on Mahatma Gandhi’s relevance today – Pitroda was speaking about the importance of freedom of speech in democracy, and said, “Recently I was talking to several hundred students in Ranchi IIT … and someone hacked and started showing pornography.”
His comments were later fact-stripped by the Center, in which the Ministry of Education made a sharp statement. The ministry said that there is no IIT in the Jharkhand capital. There is an Indian Information Technology Institute, the ministry said.
But IIIT Ranchi has no record of giving any lecture or inviting any lecture to any lecture through a video link, the ministry said, claims hacker-gandals claim and a disrupted speech “a unfounded and careless statement … to tarnish the image of an extremely reputed institution”.
