Saif Ali Khan on Friday praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for bringing about an ‘impressive change’ in public perception. The popular Bollywood actor termed several prominent personalities including Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “brave politicians”. However, Khan avoided declaring support for any party and insisted that he was “not ready” to join politics in the near future.
“I think what Rahul Gandhi has done is also very impressive because there was a time when people were disrespecting the things that he was saying and the things that he was doing. And I think by working very hard, he has changed it in a very interesting way,” the 54-year-old said at the India Today Mumbai Conclave.
Khan stressed that he wished to remain “apolitical” in his approach and avoided discussions about his personal politics. The Adipurush actor, however, said that “democracy is alive and thriving in India”.
“I am not a politician. I don’t really want to be a politician. And if I had strong ideas, I guess I would become one and then share them that way. I mean, you guys (journalists) are really brave and much more courageous than me. I’m not looking for that kind of heat. But if it were me, I would totally go and become one. And join any political party. But I’m not ready to do that yet,” he said at the event.
The actor also said that he has become more cautious in choosing projects in recent years following the controversies surrounding his 2023 film. Adipurush and OTT series Tandav,
“It’s a bit disturbing because there was a case and the court kind of ruled that an actor is responsible for what he says on screen. So technically, if you say something, a case can be filed against you saying that you should not have said it, which is a lot of pressure. So you try and tell the producer, ‘Listen, if anyone’s going to have a problem, it’s going to be you.’ But I don’t know how covered you really are,” he said.
