New Delhi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday, keeping in mind the integration of Gurukul education with mainstream education, said that the former is not about living in an ashram, but is learning about the traditions of the country.
Answering a question during the nation’s centenary celebrations, God said that he is not in favor of making Sanskrit compulsory, but it is important to understand the tradition and history of the country.
“64 aspects of the Vedic era which are relevant should be taught. Gurukul education should be integrated into the mainstream, not replaced, he said.
The RSS Sarasangcha conductor said that mainstream should be associated with Gurukul education, whose model is similar to the education model in Finland.
“In Finland, which is a leading country of education, training is a separate university for teachers. Many people come from abroad because the local population is small, so they accept students from all countries.
He said, “Education up to class VIII is conducted in the mother tongue of students … So Gurukul education is not about going to an ashram, it is to be associated with mainstream,” he said.
Appreciating the new National Education Policy as the right step in the right direction, God said that the education system in our country was destroyed long ago.
“A new education system was introduced because we always remained in slavery for foreign invaders who were the kings of those times. They wanted to rule this country and did not want to develop it. So they kept in mind keeping in mind all the systems that we can rule this country … But now we are free. So we do not need to run the state, we have to run people,” they said.
The RSS chief said that the mentality should be built, children should be given all the necessary information about the past, so that the pride in the children can be established that “we are also something, we can also do”.
“We have shown. All this was to change. In the last few years there has been a little bit and its awareness has increased,” he said.
