Crash diets that quietly focus on low-key starvation as the fast track to a toned physique only disrupt the inner workings of your body, widening the gap between you and your ‘pink’ era of health.

Have you ever wondered how your favorite actor can change his shape as per the requirements of his role? Well, because abs are literally made in the kitchen — meaning, looking your best on the outside has everything to do with what’s going on on the inside.

Celebrity fitness coach Shivoham Bhatt, whose client list includes names like Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan and Ram Charan, recently tackled the conundrum of fat loss through the lens of three widely spread myths.

Myth 1

Starving yourself is never the solution – and that’s not a lofty statement about loving your body and giving it what it wants.

Shivoham shares, “Most people think that eating less and exercising more is the key to fat loss. So they go into extreme calorie deficit. What actually happens? The body goes into survival mode. Instead of just burning fat, it starts breaking down muscle tissue to use as energy.

Losing muscle is the quickest way to slow your metabolism. Why? Because muscle is metabolically active tissue – it burns calories even at rest.

So when you starve yourself, yes, levels go down – but your body becomes weaker, softer, and more likely to regain fat. Real fat loss isn’t about eating less – it’s about eating right to boost performance and preserve muscle.”

Myth 2

Weight training is just as essential for fat loss as cardio – without the other half making sense as you approach your plateau.

Shivoham elaborates, “Cardio burns calories. Weights change metabolism.

Cardio is useful – it burns calories when you do it. But as soon as you stop, calorie burning also stops. Weight training is different. When you lift weights, you build muscle. Muscle increases your resting metabolic rate, which means your body burns more calories throughout the day – even when you’re sleeping.

If your goal is long-term fat loss and a lean body, cardio alone won’t get you there. Strength training builds your metabolic engine. Combine the two—but prioritize lifting to change your body composition.”

Myth 3

Expensive Supplements << Discipline – Nothing beats the commitment of your mind to a habit you choose, whether good or bad.

He concluded, “Discipline is the best supplement to fat loss.

Discipline is powerful, but relying solely on motivation and willpower is a trap. Most people don’t struggle because they lack discipline – they struggle because they lack structure. The real fat-loss formula is built on a system: protein-rich nutrition, deep recovery (sleep), and consistency.

Supplements like fat burners, detox teas and crash diets are temporary tricks that fail because they ignore the basics. Fat loss is biology, not motivation.”
