Rajasthan has 63,018 government schools with 5,26,162 classes. Of these, 86,934 were found to be completely dilapidated.
In an important order, the Rajasthan High Court has stopped the use of more than 86,000 dilapidated classes in government schools across the state, instructing that the rooms are closed and children should not be allowed to enter.
A bench of Justices Mahendra Kumar Goyal and Ashok Kumar Jain passed the order in view of the government survey conducted in July after the Jhalawar school collapse in July, killing seven students and eight injured in July.
According to the report, Rajasthan has 63,018 government schools with 5,26,162 classes. Of these, 86,934 were found to be completely dilapidated. Further survey showed that 5,667 schools were completely insecure for use. In terms of toilets, 17,109 were marked with dilapidated -dilapidated manner while 29,093 were repaired.
The court also asked the state to make suitable alternative arrangements so that the study of the affected students does not obstruct the study.
The conclusions are part of a preliminary survey conducted by teachers after the Jhalawar School tragedy.
During another incident, one student died and two others were injured when the main gate of a school fell in Jaisalmer.
The court has now sought a technical verification report from the engineers with the case listed for September 4.
