Mothers usually play an important role in nurturing this flexibility, helping their daughters navigate challenges with confidence and emotional strength. In an interview with HT lifestyle, Dr. Jyoti Kapoor, founder-director and senior psychiatrist in the Manasthali wellness, shares, “as a mother, if you want to flexible and fill your daughter with confidence, the first step is to promote a development mindset.

He said, “The second step encourages them to challenge themselves and learn their abilities. As a parent, it is difficult to see your child’s struggle, but today it is a little difficult, enables them to learn difficulty. The third step is a model. Children learn about flexibility to see adults in their lives.

Bringing his expertise for the same, Dr. Shweta Sharma, clinical psychological and Manas Global Foundation for Mental Health founder, recommended some major mental health tips to raise flexible girls:

1. Normalize emotions, don’t press them

Many girls are often taught to be “good” and “pleasing” at the cost of suppressing their true feelings. Teach your daughter that all feelings – happiness, anger, sadness, frustration – are valid. Instead of bottling it, encourage him to express his feelings in a healthy way.

tip: Instead of saying, “Don’t cry,” try, “I’m seeing you upset. Do you want to talk about it?”

2. Encourage problems, not perfectionism

Girls often feel the pressure to be perfect – whether in academics, appearance or behavior. Flexible girls know that mistakes are part of development. Help him to focus on problems with perfection.

tip: When she faces a shock, ask, “What can you learn from it? Next time you can deliver it in a different way?”

3. Self-value beyond the presence

Society often adds the value of a girl as her. Strengthen the fact that its price comes from his character, intelligence, kindness and skill.

tip: Praise his efforts and qualities, not only his presence. Instead “you look very beautiful,” says, “I like how firm you are when you set a goal.”

While there is no size-fit-all approach to raise children, developing healthy parenting habits can provide a solid basis for both you and your child.

4. Teach boundaries and vigor

Flexible girls know how to determine and respect the boundaries. Teach him to call him “not” without crime and recognize when someone is doing overseasing.

tip: Roll-play landscape where he may need to make himself vocal, such as telling a friend, “I don’t like it when you take my things without asking.”

5. Model healthy copying strategies

Children learn from example. Show him how to manage stress in a healthy way – whether through mindfulness, talk about emotions, or take a break when overwhelmed.

tip: Share your sexual system. Say, “I had a difficult day, so I am going to walk to clean my mind.”

6. Create emotional freedom

Although it is natural that you want to protect your daughter, but overprotect her may doubt her own abilities. Allow him to make age-appropriate decisions and face challenges with your guidance.

tip: Instead of fixing things for him, guide it: “I know it’s hard. What do you think will be a good first step to solve it?”

7. Create a safe place for open conversation

A girl who knows that she can talk to her mother without fear of decision or punishment, is more likely to seek support when needed. Become a safe place, especially in adolescence when self-doubt and social pressure peaks.

tip: Regular check-in where she feels comfortable in sharing comfortably, such as a casual chat or cooking together during the drive.
