The Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to reduce the number of deaths due to road accidents by 50% by the year 2025. To achieve this goal, CM Mann has set up a dedicated road safety force (SSF). Which is a unique initiative in the country.
Since the establishment of SSF, there has been a 25% reduction in road accidents in Punjab. This pioneering initiative aims to not only increase road safety but also save lives, raise awareness, promote responsible driving and make Punjab’s roads safer.
Additionally, the government has launched the ‘Farishte’ scheme to enhance road safety measures. Under the Farishte scheme, more than 500 government and private hospitals have been empaneled where victims of road accidents get complete treatment free of cost. This scheme not only honors but also rewards those who take the injured to hospital.
The objective of SSF and ‘Farishte’ scheme is to enable the public to transport injured persons in road accidents to the nearest hospital, thereby saving lives.
