When Pawan Kalyan came to know about the death of farmer Ramakrishna Raju in Kothuru village in Chittoor district, he expressed his grief. The flock of elephants crushed and killed the farmer. Pawan Kalyan is also the Minister of Forest and Environment. He informed the forest department officials immediately after the incident. He instructed that the flock of elephants passes from where those paths pass and the farmers of the affected areas should be warned in advance. He ordered the forest department and the district administration to immediately compensate the victim’s family.
45 -year -old Ramakrishna went to his farm, but after not returning home till late night, the family searched him. He was later found dead in the field. This is the second such incident in Chittoor in the last one month. Last month, a wild elephant of a 60 -year -old farmer died in Nagmavandalapalli village. For the last three months, a herd of about 15 elephants has been active in this area, which is damaging the fields. Despite the efforts of the forest department, wild elephants remain a threat to human life and crops. The concern has increased due to the increase in elephants’ attacks in Chittoor district.
10 lakh rupees compensation to the victim’s family
According to forest officials, since 2011, about 25 people have lost their lives in elephants. The government has recently increased the compensation for the victim families from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Between 2015 and 2024, elephants damaged more than 203 acres of crops. Local people say that two trends have been brought to Kumki elephants. Despite being an elephant, the forest department is not able to use them better.
